Hot Water Safety
To avoid scalding, keep your tap water temperature set on the “warm” or “low” setting on your water heater; that’s about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. For sensitive individuals like young children or senior citizens, a tap water temperature set between 95- and 100-degrees Fahrenheit is suitable. Never leave a small child alone in the tub where he or she can accidentally turn on the hot water.
How to test your water temperature:
- Run the hot water for five minutes.
- Put a reliable thermometer that registers at least 150 degrees under the water stream.
- If your water is more than 125 degrees, lower the thermostat on your water heater. If you can’t find the temperature controls or have any questions, call a qualified contractor or your landlord for help.
